Curriculum
Below is a brief summary of the foundation stage, the first part of the national curriculum, which focuses on the needs of children aged 3 to 6 years.
The foundation stage has six learning areas, and each area has Early Learning Goals (ELG). We plan accordingly to enable children to achieve towards the ELG according to the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA).
Personal and social and emotional development:
focuses on children learning how to work, play, co-operate with others and function in a group beyonf the family.
Communication language and literacy:
focuses on children's developing competence in talking and listening, and in becoming readers and writers.
Mathematics development:
covers aspects of mathematical understanding and provides the foundation for numeracy.
Knowledge and understanding of the world:
focuses on children's developing knowledge and understanding of their envurinment, other people and features of the natural man-made world.
Physical development:
focuses on children's developing physical control, mobility, awareness of space and manipulative skills in indoor and outdoor environments.
Creative development:
focuses on the development of children's imagination and their ability to communicate and to express ideas and feeling in creative ways.
The importance of play
At Bradworthy Pre-School we teach using learning through play wherever possible, so children in our group find that learning is not a burden imposed by adults. Rather an exciting expression of their own instinctive attempts to explore their world. An essential ingredient to the success of Bradworthy Pre-School and beyond is children discover learning can be fun.
